| Pattern Description:
Lined, partially interfaced jacket with princess seams and shoulder pads. Instructions are included for hand tailored collar and lapels, hand buttonholes, novelty in-seam pockets with pleats.
View A has instructions for couture construction, while view B has instructions for high end ready-to-wear construction. I made view B.
Pattern Sizing:
6-22. I made a 14.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, my jacket generally looked like the one in the picture. My fabric doesn't lay as smoothly. Perhaps I don't have the fit done correctly. Also, I used a corduroy which may be a bit heavy for the jacket.
My sleeves look like there was a lot of extra fabric because the sleeve head is visibly gathered. I put the sleeves in twice and this was the best I could get it.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I really liked the instructions. If I didn't understand what the words were saying, often the picture could help. I got lost at step 46 (under the heading 'finish the lining'). After step 47, I had stitched the entire bottom hem, but later, while finishing the sleeves, it appeared that I needed the bottom hem to be open. I think this is more due to my fatigue with the pattern rather than the pattern itself. I loved the instructions and learned a lot while constructing this jacket.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked the look of the jacket and I especially liked that the instructions were written by Claire Shaeffer. After finishing the jacket, I felt like I had taken a course in making a jacket. It was an educational experience!
Fabric Used:
I used a aubergine corduroy.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I didn't do the keyhole buttonholes just because I felt like I'd been working on the jacket a long time and I was anxious to finish. I lengthened the jacket and sleeves by 2". I wouldn't lengthen the sleeves next time because they are too long (I've just folded them up to the vent button). Other than that, I didn't change anything else.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I would like to sew this again with a nicer fabric and work on the fit more. I will be using the collar technique for other jackets because it was so easy and gave a beautiful result.
Conclusion:
This is a great pattern for anyone interested in expanding their sewing skills. I think this style looks classic and since it won't go out of fashion any time soon, it is well worth the time spent.

Your jacket is beautiful and I think you nailed the fit! Corduroy doesn't "tailor" quite as well as wool, so this makes your project even more inspiring. This is my favorite jacket pattern of all time, sadly, I don't think I will make it because it's not my "style." Yours is beautiful!!!!

Glad that you went the extra mile to use the couture methods... it is so worth it.

I think you did a great job, despite the corduroy. Sometimes a corduroy blend (poly/cotton) is easier to work with.
