Pattern Description:
Very loose fitting top with a V neckline, pleats across the shoulders and a front shaped interestingly by darts and triangular bias sections.
Pattern Sizing: 6-12. I made size 8 though I'm a twelve and there's room aplenty.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Not really. The cut doesn't know where to go on a figure with a clearly pronounced waist and creates a boxy shape (check out what it looks like on my wasp waisted dummy Here But I imagine on a triangle or an apple it would look fine, provided the fabric was drapey enough.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Totally.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The design is interesting and quite beautiful: I love the coming together of all the different sections below the bust and it gives you an interesting opportunity to play around with the graphics of your print.
The French Seams throughout result in a garment that's very attractive on the inside: a bonus if you're without a serger and fed up of zigzagging!
I do however dislike the gash-like neckline and am wondering how prudent it was to place it so close to the shoulder pleats.
Fabric Used: Cotton Lawn with a lovely print of trees. Details available Here
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added two contour darts at the back to give the boxiness a more flattering shape but am not sure how much of a difference this has made.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to
others? I would love to sew it again but for someone very slinky or more apply in shape: it would certainly be a challenge to professionally match those French Seams that join in the middle front.

MNBarb said... This is a difficult top to wear. Don't beat yourself up over it. I've seen other reviews and think your finished garment, on you, looks better than some. There is no figure that is flattered by boxy but your fabric choice really helped. It is more floaty than cardboardy. I think it looks cute with the skirt. If you donate it, it will be in good company with my latest failure! 12/31/12 1:14 PM
