Pattern Description:
Turtleneck top
Pattern Sizing:
Burda sizes 36-44; I traced a 44 based on bust measurement as I had read it was close fitting. That was too large so I cut it without adding seam allowance which probably made it about a 40-42.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, I have made four of these now and they all look similar to the photos in the magazine. The look varies a little based on the weight of the knits. I made a black one out of a silky soft rayon spandex jersey from Joann's. Another was out of polyester and lycra knit from Mood Fabrics. The others were made from fabrics I had in my stash and I don't know the fabric content. One was light weight bright turquoise and the other was a green stripe, a little heavier knit that gives a more traditional turtleneck look.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they were very easy. There are three pattern pieces (front, back, sleeve) and a rectangle to cut to size for the turtleneck collar.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love to wear turtlenecks in the winter and this one is super comfortable -- not too tight or loose. I am very pleased with the comfort and fit of this pattern. The pattern runs a little long on me, but I kind of like that and if I change my mind, I can just cut it off and hem again. I like that it is shaped in the side seams at the waistline. I like to wear the longer top almost like a tunic with close fitting jeans and sometimes boots. As it turned out, I had a purchased hand dyed scarf that I hadn't been wearing much and it was perfect with the turquoise top. click here
The scale of the "Missoni-esque" print was much larger than I thought it would be so I usually belt it and wear it like a tunic. click here
I didn't upload a photo of the black one as it was impossible to see any detail, but it is a wonderful first layer for this time of year as it is so silky soft next to the skin.

Fabric Used:Various knits

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The directions call for a set-in collar and I did three that way. I put the sleeves in flat in another. I don't think it makes any difference in appearance. I did set in the sleeves in the green stripe because I thought I would be able to match the stripes better doing it that way. I used clear stretch tape instead of bias tape to stabilize the shoulder seams.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes and yes.

Conclusion: This has become a go-to winter top for me. One of my goals is to make at least one garment from each Burda issue in 2013.
