I think it would look nice, too, as a light "jacket" with a navy camisole under, or a few more buttons undone and a navy camisole peeking out. Good job. 2/28/05 11:53 AM
MaryBeth said... Nice work! You were brave to add the darts in the face of the striped fabric but they are less noticeable up near the collar. My mind is searching for another way to add the front fullness besides darts...easing through the shoulder/sleeve seam???
I'm also wondering if shoulder pads would smooth out the front of this blouse? I find they make everything I wear look better (the good Lord must have given part of my shoulders to someone who really needed big shoulders).
This is a great collar! Perhaps I should buy this pattern one day...it would be a difficult one for me to draft on my own with my present skills..... thanks for the review! 3/9/05 11:19 AM

Elona said... Lovely blouse, Irene! As to that little wrinkle below the back neck, I think it signifies the same thing as a wrinkle below the back waistline of skirts or pants: Too much length.
I don't think you have a rounded back at all. It really looks as though you need to take length out right there.
You might want to try an adjustment for an erect upper back (your posture looks very upright). Another possibility is to "scoop out" the back neck just a bit at a time, minding the neck circumference. Perhaps someone could help you pin out that little bit of fullness, and see what that alteration would look like on the pattern. 9/2/05 5:04 PM
Mini said... I think Elona is right. Maybe next time you do this blouse you could baste the back neck seam, and try taking a deeper seam allowance out of the blouse part. If that works, you can just trim away the extra fabric.
The stripes really are perfect for this blouse, they really dramatize the square armhole. 9/2/05 7:38 PM

Ditto above suggestions re the excess under the collar fabric. It seems like there is too much length and or needs deeper scooping out. Just experiment and see ! 9/2/05 8:37 PM

Irene said... Beautiful blouses! I've been following your alteration saga and am glad to hear that the latest worked well. I made the short-sleeve version and have been puzzling over why the front is so much shorter than the back. (I don't need a full-bst adjustment.) I may need an erect back adjustment, but I think the main problem is that the collar gets stuck on my neck and won't slide forward enough. So scooping (maybe 1/2-3/4 in. in my case) seems to be the best solution. Thanks for confirming that thought! 9/29/05 8:38 PM
