I used several different dyi pinch pleated drapes tutorial from the internet to understand how professional drapes are constructed. They turned out excellent especially for my first curtains. I used a out home decor fabric, double napped interlining and drapery lining for the backside. I ended up doing 3 inch side seams - double folded down to 1.5" double fold top hem with pleating tape and a single fold bottom hem. The drapery lining is a double fold blind hem as well. I did purchase a portable blind hem machine (consew 75t - which I will review at a later time when I've put it to good use) because my domestic machine was puckering the drapery lining. I love how they turned out! Click Here for more photos
eta: please excuse my horrible pictures as I took them at midnight and then realized that I didn't fan out the curtains to cover the trim - lol - they do in fact cover the trim.
cleverkitty said... Your drapes are awesome!!! coming from someone who makes them professionally although not as much anymore. I applaud you on your hard work, they are straight the pattern is symmetrical . I love the lining and the blind hemmer will pay off, after you get done with all your windows you will be an expert. Custom work can be profitable, the best part is you can make your house look like it's out of a magazine at a fraction of the cost. The knowledge you gain will bring you confidence like you won't believe. Keep up the beautiful work :) 1/3/13 1:58 PM

I never realized how much work goes into professional curtains - now I understand why they are expensive but the drape of them is amazing and I def don't regret all the hard work. thanks for your comment :) 1/3/13 8:35 PM
