Pattern Description: Pullover tops have neck binding. B: front pleat. A and B: close-fitting; stitching line forms sleeves and narrow hem. C: slits for self belt. D: binding extends into tie ends and purchased trim. C and D: very loose-fitting, sleeveless, front/back/flange gathered into yokes, and side panels.
I used view A, and the belt from view C and D.
Pattern Sizing: L--XL--XXL. I used cut the L.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Not really, because I made several mods.
Were the instructions easy to follow? I didn't really use them because of the mods, but yes, they were easy and clear.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I used the pattern to help me get the right sizing and shape of the shoulder seams. I liked the open kaftan styling.
Fabric Used: A polyester charmeuse from Gorgeous Fabrics.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made alterations to make this maternity appropriate. I also made stylistic mods.
1. Changed the neckline to a v-neck, and narrowed it by about half an inch on each side.
2. Made the sides fall straight down from the shoulder, ending at a right angle at the hem, instead of curving in. I altered the seam lines based on my measurements. (No tight hips here!)
3. Added 4" in length.
4. When I cut the front, I put the point of the v-neck on the fold, but then rotated the bottom of the pattern piece so it was about 3 inches away from the fold. This way, it added more fabric in the front panel without changing the side seams. It also made the front hem slightly curved in the middle, making the hemline appear straight, instead of arced by the baby bump.
5. Added a belt above the bump by inserting button holes above the seam lines.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I don't think I need another top like this, but I'm very happy with it, and I'm glad to add it to my maternity wardrobe.
Conclusion: It was fun making some minor alterations and getting a piece I really like!
