Pattern Description: Drapey Long Cardigan

What did you particularly like or dislike about this? There are several varieties of the drapey cardy out there but most of the RTW that I tried on looked awful, especially those intended for wrapping around you. But this shape seems to work for me.

Pattern Design: I sat in the changing room with garment laid out flat and made a note of the angles and points and how the collar was made. Then I used Burda 09-2007-404 as a base and drafted a new front. Drawing Front peice

Fabric Used: This is thick acrylic knit. It was manufacturing leftovers that I found in the local market. It wasn't very wide in most places so I had to have a seam down th ecentre back. It hardly frayed which made construction easy.

Did it look like the original once you were done sewing with it? Yes it did.

Construction It was all very simple:
* Join shoulders and stabilise
* Attach the sleeves
* Sew side seams
* Join collar at center back, fold it in half and attach to the neck.
* Sew the hems by folding over and top stitching. I stabalised the bottom hem with fusible tape because the widthways stretch gave me a bit of grief on my 1st try.

I don't have an serger so I used an overcast stitch internally and twin needle on all the edges.

Conclusion: I'm not a great fan of cardys with no front closure but this one looks good and I wear it heaps. I'll probably make it again, but I'll drop the front point lower. More photos

Very nice. I have wondered why some of these look nice and some don't, but haven't taken the time to actually analyse the shapes. I would love to see the more photos but the link is taking me to the log in page, not your photos.
