Pattern Description:
Using the book The Art of Kiltmaking, to construct traditional Scottish Kilt (8yd, knife pleat).
The book (available at www.celticdragonpress.com) describes the history, style and traditional hand-sewn methods of kilt construction. It contains step by step instructions on how to measure, select fabric, mark, cut, hand sew and press. It is written from the perspective of a beginner supplying multiple diagrams, photos and tips on construction. The
book also includes references to websites, suppliers and other items needed for construction.
Supplimental instructions are also available to construct a traditional 4yrd box pleat kilt.

Pattern Sizing:
You develop the pattern size based on your measurements. The book describes how to properly measure and adjust for body variations.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. Most instructions are step by step, with diagrams and photos. Photos of poor construction and pleating are also included and described.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The finished product is as good as other machine made kilts, purchased at a much greater price.

Fabric Used:
Scottish woven wool tartan

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes. In fact, I've used the supplimental instructions to make a 4yrd box pleat kilt.

Conclusion:
If you need instruction to make a kilt, this is the ultimate guide. While top-stitching 20+ pleats takes time, you learn the basics and advanced techniques. Start with the best tartan you can find and follow each step (including all the basting steps) and you will end up with a custom tailored kilt which will last a lifetime.

Nice job. I am a big fan of wool. Based on what you say, a kilt sounds like a fun, unisex project.
