Pattern Description: High waisted A line skirt with buttons down the front. Fitted waist, large scoop pockets and pleats at front and back.
Pattern Sizing: XS to XL. I chose somewhere between and XS and S.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes. It's definitely much shorter than the first one I made for work!
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very. As I've said in my first review of this skirt, there are also useful diagrams and handy hints.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It's such an easy pattern to put together. There are only 5 pattern pieces. It took me a few hours (spread over a weekend) to make. I still love the pockets the most - really simple way of putting them in that I've used on other skirt patterns too. I also love the way the buttons make the whole skirt more interesting.
Fabric Used: A lightweight denim that I got from Birmingham Rag Market. I only had 1m and it was 112cm wide so I had to be really economical with the cutting. I knew from before that the recommended hem is quite large (over 6cm) so I just made the pattern pieces a bit shorter and did a smaller hem. I didn't use denim for the pocket linings as I thought it would be too bulky so I used some shirting material that I had in my stash.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Because the first time I made this skirt I had problems with the buttonholes, I decided to put interfacing in the button plackets. This really helped keep it sturdier and made the buttonholes MUCH easier to insert. I also used 6 buttons instead of the recommended 7 - but only because I didn't have enough!
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes and yes!
Conclusion: Great, well thought out, easy to follow pattern, excellent for beginners but still interesting enough for those who've been sewing for longer. I am still firmly in the first category! Read more on my blog: www.tybalt-king-of-cats.blogspot.co.uk
