I've been experimenting with fabric dyeing and using the results to muslin new top patterns. Pattern Description:
from site: blouse with decorative neckline.
I'm adding: The front is in 2 pieces with straps that cross at center neck and wrap around to the back to form the collar. There is a wedge to attach to the strap to finish the shoulder/armhole. The back is cut on the fold, there are short sleeves. Pattern Sizing:
you plug in 4 measurements and the garment is generated to fit you Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
yes Were the instructions easy to follow?
No - for this top, you really need a little experience sewing or puzzle making...Instructions are minimal, but it didn't take too long to figure out. I wouldn't want to sew it as my first top! What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
An absolutely perfect fit! Shoulders, general ease, and for once - no adjustments to the center back or neckline - that's a real biggie for me! Fabric Used:
Rayon spandex terry I got from JA's - it warped something fierce in the dye pre-treatment process, it would probably been OK if I had cold washed and flat or air dry. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I shortened the sleeve by 3" - I don't like elbow length on me, that was it! Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes - I have some really nice striped fabric that I've been holding on for just the right project and this is it! I"ll be doing both a sleeveless and long sleeve version. I say go for it! Conclusion:
It's a minimal investment for a custom sized top, they also have free patterns you can try. I'm looking forward to sewing up the other patterns I got from them. collage

Jstarr - I went back and read the instructions - it seems they call the center front seam the "middle section" of the collar. You would sew on the wedges, then cross the front straps as in the picture, next sew the center front seam up to the first notch. It would be nice if they provided a more detailed picture, the actual sewing is easy as all the notches line up exactly.

I thought like you, they were calling it the "middle edge" but what they were referencing was the the middle edge of the collar. Either way, this top is easy once you figure that part out. I just made a muslin of this top and have not posted it yet. Beautiful work! 1/24/13 6:09 AM
