Pattern Description: Variations of dresses - Mine is View D
Pattern Sizing:I made a 16
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I loved the style, I should have done a fitting for the back.
Fabric Used:Rayon Poly-lycra woven in a deep eggplant
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:I lengthed the bodice about 1 1/2" but that was too much for the back, I really should have:
- cut a 14 for the bodice
- done a full bust adjustment
- then figure out how much length to add
- curve the back at the upper CB
- done a swayback adjustment
All in all to solve the back issues I had to do major fussing with the back as I didn't want to rip apart the whole bodice and take out the zipper. As you can see on my blog post, it's still a bit wonky:
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I think this is a great pattern. I really need to solve the back fitting issues for some other sheath dresses I have planned. My other issue is I can't find invisible zips in colours long enough - this is a 22" zipper but it does not open past the waist enough - I have to squish my boobs through the waist. Suggestions to avoid this in the future would be appreciated - I have had this issue before in dresses with fitted waists and back zips.
Conclusion: This is a great pattern with lots of style variations!

Mazzygirl said... Looks lovely. I really need to get mine made too! wherever possible, try inserting a side zipper, with the opening at the armhole (this will only work for sleeveless styles!). this may help with the fitting issues over the boobs. 1/24/13 1:23 AM

yummymummy38 said... Lovely dress Sue. I use 55cm for sheath dresses, unless they have a low back, otherwise quite hard to get dress off over hips. With invisible zips, you can alway choose a non-matching colour, only the zipper pull will show... 1/24/13 6:49 AM

Did a little poking around here in the garment district of NY and I see that Panda International stocks 24" BKC Zippers in colors if you'd like to check it out. But of course Yummymummy38 is right about black and white zippers, you are the only one who would know! 1/24/13 9:53 AM

Where the neckline is wide enough to pull over the head, you can start the back zippers a few inches below the neckline (also makes neckline finishing easier). This gives you a few extra inches below the waist. 1/24/13 10:23 AM
