Pattern Description:
This pattern is for a variety of fairy type costumes for kids.
Pattern Sizing:
Sizing seemed about right. My daughter is taller and thinner than average and this was about the right length for her, so might be a little long for a shorter child.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
She asked me to make it in purple, view C, just as in the drawing on the pattern envelope, and it came out remarkably similar - I hadn't thought the finished product would have as much fullness as the drawing.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Instructions were very easy to follow. With some careful fabric choices, a patient beginning sewer wouldn't have too many problems.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
As with most patterns, I find I do more finishing and handwork than is called for in the instructions, e.g., enclosing raw seam allowances inside bodice linings, hemming by hand, that sort of thing. I think it would be nice to have more of those suggestions included in patterns - new sewers might appreciate the ideas to make nicer finished garments. I really liked the puffy underskirt in the pattern - gives body to the skirt without scratchy netting being needed - my daughter says it's very comfortable to wear.
Fabric Used:
I used glittery satin for the bodice and underskirt, then various sparkly and glittery organza for the petal-like overskirt sections.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The pattern called for three layers of each of the petal-like tiers, but I only cut two layers and that still made a VERY full skirt. I think I would only have used 3 layers if I'd used a very light tulle instead. It was still rather bulky. Also, to reduce bulk, I pleated instead of gathering the petal-like tiers.
As mentioned above, I also did more handwork than indicated.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I would absolutely recommend this pattern - it went together very quickly, looks really spiffy, and most importantly, my daughter adores it.
Conclusion:
Great pattern for halloween or dressup. Lots of ways to modify it to make it special for your own child.
