| Pattern Description: This lovely feminine top has a gathered front bodice creating a soft V neckline and rouched sleeves.
Pattern Sizing:Like all Style Arc patterns this is a single size pattern. It's available in Australian RTW sizes 6 to 30 (bust 82 to 148 cm, 32 to 58 in). I sewed an 18.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Pretty much. I lengthened the sleeves.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
As usual with Style Arc, these were brief but straightforward.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Very nice, very easy pattern. This is a quick make. I always like how Style Arc patterns are made to be cut in one layer (rather than on a fold) as this is great for knits. I'm still figuring out how best to narrow the shoulders. Up to now I have narrowed the shoulder but I should do the neckline as well. Actually I probably should buy a smaller size and do an FBA.
The sleeve is very nice:
Fabric Used: Viscose-lycra jersey with a nice drape. I made a second one of these in a lighter weight viscose jersey and although it also made up well, I can see it isn't lasting as well.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Design: I lengthened the sleeves, which meant I needed to lengthen the elastic used for the gathering, in proportion. Simple arithmetic, thankfully.
I can't remember what the pattern specified for elastic but I used what I had to hand, which was some 5mm polyester elastic.
Fitting: the usual - added to the hips and waist the difference between Style Arc stated measurements and my own. The fit of Style Arc patterns is very, very consistent. It's fabulous!! I also took 1.5cm out of each shoulder.
The back neck does gape a little, this is a fitting issue as my shoulders are narrow and I didn't correct for this.
The pictures here were taken at the end of a day's wear, when the fabric has bagged a bit - this isn't the pattern's fault.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I already have. The picture above isn't the greatest but my partner assures me it is a flattering top, and believe me, that is praise not given lightly.
Conclusion:
Another great wardrobe staple from Style Arc. On the second make, I was going to use a normal (unshirred) sleeve, just for a change, but the consensus from the floor was that the shirred sleeve is very nice.
