| Pattern Description:
The sleeveless and collarless dress with extended neckline has back zipper. The lined coat and jacket have notched collar, set-in sleeves and optional front loop and button closing. The coat has about wrist-length sleeves and welts. The jacket has short sleeves.
Pattern Sizing:
Only size 12 was in the envelope.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
No. But I was going for a specific look that was closely related to the original pattern.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
They were good for this basic dress, though I didn't follow them all.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
It worked for my hack job.
Fabric Used:
Sophia Ponte knit. I love this fabric. I highly recommend it.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Starting with this size 12, I used one of my dress blocks with a similar shape to resize but kept the back smaller in width. In the end, and after some fixing up I needed to do to the upper chest, the back ended up a tad small and too long (I normally do a swayback alteration for my short waist and flat derriere).
Once I had resized the pattern, I cut the pieces apart so I would get the look of the Star Trek TNG skant, a costume that was seldom worn and disappears completely from the show. I also cut the neck down to resemble the costume. I use black fold over elastic on the neck.
After cutting for the color blocking, I added seam allowances to all cut sides and pieced it all together.
I had to redo the upper chest. It was baggy and the shoulder seams weren't lined up correctly. That's when I took in the bust dart, which I kinda think disappears, don't you think?
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I'd make another for a friend but probably not for myself. It's meant primarily as a costume so one is good for me.
Conclusion:
Super fun project. I've been wanting this costume for a a while but couldn't bring myself to have one in polyester. The ponte works perfectly for this.
I put together some photos on my blog with a short story for your enjoyment. It's very goofy.

Just too galactic gorgeous! You gave this classic pattern a futuristic edge. Hope you go on a "star-date" in this dress.
