Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
As much as could be expected, with my modifications.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
They were fine (and I liked the collar instructions), but a little sparse for a total beginner.
I don't think I did a great job with the placket above the cuffs, but this is because I'm new to the technique (it's probably not the fault of the instructions).
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked the streamlined menswear-style shirt design. I also like that the design of the shirt fronts means that you can use the selvedge effectively.
Cotton/linen blend, washed several times in hot water to avoid shrinkage later.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I used Fit for Real People to add 4" at the bust, and should have added 5". I also should have lowered the bust point by about 1/2".
As per the suggestion from clothingengineer, I substantially shortened the cuff piece.
I also left off the top few buttons, and made my own template for button placement. I'd never ever use the top buttons anyway, and this fabric is a little less structured so I think this look is okay. I also have to be careful with button placement to avoid gaping, even with a FBA.
I added an inch in width for each bicep, and this works well for me. I have big biceps though, so make sure to tissue fit your pattern before you make any adjustments (or not).
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I will probably sew it again, and tweak my adjustments. Yes, I would suggest it to other people who want a simple and stylish work shirt!
Another great basic from Style Arc.
