Pattern Description: Jeans for baby or toddler with optional snaps on inseam.
Pattern Sizing:0-18 months. The pattern seems to run true to size, but is very wide in the diaper area. I made the (L)6-12 month size for my skinny 16 month old who normally wears 12 month pants in ready to wear.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Yes. The pattern sewed up very nicely with lots of great details. Back View
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were great!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I loved the way the instructions were written. They are very clear and the illustrations are very helpful. Despite all the little details involved I was able to quickly make a very cute pair of jeans that look ready to wear.
I disliked the fit of the jeans. It may be that I have a very skinny 16 month old, but they are ridiculously wide in the crotch and hips. Sadly, despite the fact that the jeans turned out so nice, they are almost unwearable. They would be great for a baby with a bit more girth or even babies who wear cloth diapers. You can see a photo of the fit here fit
Fabric Used:I used a heavier weight stretch denim. Probably a little too heavy for baby jeans, but I had it on hand.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:As I said, the instructions were great. The only things I really did differently were to finish all the seams on my serger and sew down the waistband then thread the elastic through. I really don't think I gained anything by doing it that way, other than I wanted to be able to adjust the elastic to son's waist. The only thing that I would do differently would be to finish off the hems on the serger before sewing up the inseam. Trying to serge those ridiculously small hems in a circle was more stress than it needed to be.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I would definitely recommend it to others who are sewing for a baby that needs a wider hip area, but it didn't work for my son, so I won't be sewing them again.
Conclusion: Even though these jeans didn't work for my son, I'm glad I sewed them. The pattern was so well written it was like taking a mini class on sewing jeans. I'm off to work on a less detailed pattern for my daughter and I can confidently add some details to them that I might not have thought of before.

What a pity these were so wide because you did a wonderful job on them. I like your positive thinking about how much you learnt too.

I am sorry the pants are so big. It looks like they would be big on about any baby! Your work is outstanding and they are cute as can be though.
