Pattern Description:
I bought this pattern on Etsy from A Sunday Girl http://asundaygirl.etsy.com. The tote bag is constructed using jelly roll strips with decorative stitching, lined, with a divided pocket, magnetic closure and fabric handles. Photo of inside of bag. Here's a link to the pattern. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, except I omitted the attached fabric flower. Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were awesome -- very precise, detailed and straightforward with accompanying photos. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
This tutorial was really well written and easy to follow. I loved adding the decorative stitching detail (I used a feather stitch) and the idea of using jelly roll strips to construct the bag and handles. Since I'm also a quilter, using the jelly roll strips was right up my alley. Fabric Used:
Cotton Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I omitted the fabric flower on the outside of the tote because that's just not my style. Also, I used fusible fleece instead of sew-in interfacing on the body of the bag and the fabric handles. Instead of buying pre-quilted fabric as suggested for the lining, I fused fusible fleece to some cotton fabric I had in my stash. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I would make it again and would recommend this tutorial. Conclusion: This is a really great pattern for a tote bag that was simple to construct and came together nicely. My daughter has already claimed it.
Renren said... That's very nice with a great selection of fabrics. I'm quite interested in the feather stitch you used--I'll have to see if it is on my machine. Was attaching the magnetic closure straightforward? Did A Sunday Girl include that in her tutorial? Congrats on completing your entry! 1/28/13 5:56 PM

Sew Nanny said... A jelly roll is usually used for quilts. It's a group of fabric strips precut the same width and length from a fabric collection. 2/4/13 9:23 PM
