| Pattern Description: A-line skirt with scalloped hem and a side invisible zipper. The upper edge and scalloped hem have facings.
Pattern Sizing:
0-18, I cut a size 8 muslin, everything being fine, I cut a straight size 8 from my fabric.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes although, on me, the skirt doesn't sit "just below the waist" like in the pattern description but at waist level. Which is fine with me. It's also a little more A line on me than on the pattern picture.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes as usual, Colette Patterns instructions are among the best I know.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Love the hem of course.
To get a good result on the hem, drawing the stitching line, as recommended in the instructions, is a necessity IMO.
I also sewed the scallops slowly with a very short stitch length (1mm). The short stitch gives more control in the curves and when you get at the tip of the scallops.
After sewing, cutting the seam allowance smaller and careful and precise clipping/notching at the tips is also needed to get a nice looking scalloped hem. And of course a good press is the most important step.
As I pressed I rolled the seam slightly toward the facing so that the seam wouldn't show on the right side of the skirt.
My scalloped hem is not absolutely perfect, but I'm happy with it.
Fabric Used:
Quilting Cotton : La Strada from Alexander Henry.
The fabric weight wasn't quite right for this skirt so I underlined it with a synthetic black crepe, and that worked great.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Apart from underlining the fabric no alteration at all !
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes and yes.
Conclusion:
A very nice and fun skirt pattern, that made me learn new skills, and I love that !
Oh and I had been holding on to this piece of fabric for a long time... I didn't want to "lose it" to any project. I'm happy I did use it for a Meringue skirt .
