| Pattern Description: This is a free pattern on the Oliver +S website. It is for a girl's ruffled halter top with a tie at the neck.
Pattern Sizing:
Sizes from a size Xs through a size XL. I made the size medium for niece who wears a size 6.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, it looked exactly like the photos I had seen. Were the instructions easy to follow?
The assembly of the top was very easy. I only had to glance over the directions in order to understand how to sew this top.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The top came together very easily. I was able to cut it out and sew it in just a couple of hours. There are a couple of things that I think needed to be modified about the pattern. First, the ruffles need to be longer. I don't like for the unfinished ruffle seam to show so I like the ruffles to overlap more. Next time I make this, I will lengthen the ruffles. Second, I used a decorative flatlock stitch on my serger to cover the unfinished top of the ruffles. That looked very good and I was quite happy with how that turned out.
Fabric Used:
I used a woven cotton fabric.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The pattern has you cut the ruffles on the bias and not hem them. But since I was trying to squeeze out a top and capris from the amount of fabric that I had, I did not cut them on the bias. Therefore I finished the bottom of the ruffles with a rolled hem. I think I might use the same rolled hem to finish the bottom of the shirt the next time I make this.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I've already made it one more time. And I just bought fabric today to make two more tops.
Conclusion:
Very cute pattern and sews up easily. There are a few changes that I felt need to be made but the pattern was fine as it was.
