| Pattern Description: This children's sewing pattern for a girl's double-breasted unlined jacket has band collar, gathered empire waist, and cuffed long sleeves. Optional bias trim to finish facing edge and seam allowances. The A-line skirt child's sewing pattern features front pockets and back kick pleat with elasticized back waistband. I made the skirt.
Pattern Sizing:Available in two size ranges. 6M - 3T or 4 - 8. I made the size 4.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? I have two issues with the instructions.
1. This is minor, and I feel petty mentioning it, but you aren't given instructions about seam finishes - when and if they'll be required. I think I've recently being spoilt by patterns that spoon feed.
2. The second issue related to the instructions for inserting the elastic into the back waistband. In essence, you are told to attached the waistband and edgestitch the waistband down on the right side leaving a 2 inch gap at the back seam. You are then supposed to thread the elastic using a safety pin or bodkin through the gap into the waistband and stitch each end at the side seams. That all sounds perfect, but how the heck are you supposed to get the safely pin or bodkin out? If you follow the instructions... you can't. Oh the frustration! I unpicked the majority of the edgestitching on the back waistband, coxed the elastic in, secured it at each end (as per the original instructions) and then edgestitched the back waistband opening to enclose the elastic.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I dislike the two issues with the instructions (see above), but I actually love the skirt. The pockets and the back kick pleat give this simple a-line skirt interest, while making it practical for little ones to wear and play in.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? If this skirt passes the full day wearing test (fingers crossed), I can see myself making lots more of these for both my girls.
Conclusion: A cute a-line girls skirt with pockets. The instructions for inserting the elastic into the back waistband are inaccurate, but if your confident enough to do your own thing regarding this step, then go for it.

Adorable, adorable skirt and that is odd about the unhelpful instructions for inserting the elastic. I love the last blog photo: no better way to announce "The End."
