Pattern Description:
A dress with a side drape that forms a single sleeve. The dress is made from a single piece of fabric with binding on the neckline and sleeve. Pattern Sizing:
Very small Japanese sizing. I made the L/XL which is perfect for a AUS/UK size 10. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes. Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were in Japanese so I can't comment on the written instructions, but the diagrams are very clear and I worked it out easily. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
This is a very simple design which is quick and easy to sew. The finished result is unique and stylish and has the wow factor! Fabric Used:
Lace fabric with a slight stretch. The geometric pattern of the lace accentuates the draping on the dress. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made this exactly to the pattern, except that I included an additional sleeve on my version (the original has only one sleeve). I took the sleeve pattern from dress No. 7 in the same book and it was perfect. I just took it in slightly and shortened it to match the existing, draped sleeve. I bound the sleeves with a strip of cotton knit fabric in a matching colour and used the same knit fabric as binding on the inside of the neckline. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
This is a simple and lovely dress and I will probably make it again in different fabric. I have lots of other Drape Drape patterns I want to try first though! I do recommend this and it would suit a newish sewist (that's a tongue twister!). Conclusion:
I am really pleased with the fit and style of this dress. I love how the 'Drape Drape' patterns turn simplicity of design into something special and unique. The lace fabric makes this dress feel like a special occasion dress and I would be interested to see it made from a different fabric for daily wear.
