Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, almost exactly because I tend to be a little challenged with the placement and ideas around reptile prints
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, I found the instructions simple enough to follow. I made a few changes to the construction, though, in order to get a clean finish on the inside of the garment.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked the original snake-print blouse and when I stumbled upon a reptilian print, thought I should have one too. And I was intrigued by the trench-style - I was curious to see if it would translate well to a blouse.
Fabric Used:
silk satin chiffon. This type of fabric was new to me, as it's a chiffon weight with a satin finish on the right side.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I made my standard FBA and sewed all French seams for a clean finish.
I used silk organza for the interfacing, which made the project a little more involved. You can see the details of the organza construction here.
The only other change I made was to add width through the back shoulders, and remove the exact same width through the front shoulders. This seems to be a standard fix required on all Burda magazine patterns for me. The shoulders appear to be drafted for someone with narrow shoulders in the back and very healthy pectorals. Once it's adjusted, however, the patterns fit well.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
It's an interesting take on a trench, and a welcome change in silhouette from a typical blouse. I particularly like it belted.
Conclusion:
It's a great blouse based on the trench coat style and it really truly works wonderfully in a lightweight floaty fabric.
