|Pattern Description: |
Long sleeved dress with stand up collar and ruffle running down front middle seam. Version A has a deeper ruffle than version B. I made version B.
38-46. I made my usual with Burda, 40 at top blending to 42 at hips. As you can see form the photo it is a bit fitted. Perhaps I should have gone one size higher to get more ease with this one.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, I think so.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I didn't follow them much, since the dress is relatively simple to make.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I was attracted to the pattern by the ruffle detail. As it turns out, once I put it on, I really don't like the ruffle anymore, it's too fussy for my taste. Oh well!
Wool tweed blend, somewhat loosely woven so it has a nice fluid hand. Also both sides of the fabric are the same, which is key for the ruffle.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I didn't insert the zippers on the sleeves. I just widened the sleeves a couple of centimeters and my hand fits through with no problems. I also added a lining since I didn't want tweed wool against my skin. I made the lining using the back pieces and for the front I just winged it tracing only the bottom and side shape without the ruffle. In front I also gave the lining a huge scoop neckline, so it doesn't show over the ruffled neckline and finished the lining with a rolled hem on the serger.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Nope, I now know that ruffles look good in pictures but are not my style. If you know that you do like wearing ruffles then I do recommend it as the dress fits well and is not too sexy to be wearable.
I'm glad I tried it, but now I know ruffles are just not for me.
