| Pattern Description:
Boys' lined vest with front buttons, faux welt pockets, and faux back tie.
Pattern Sizing:
92-128. I upgraded this to fit height 134, but kept width 128.
On my second version, I stitched a straight size 146 (upgraded) for my taller boy.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes - follow them carefully as the stitching order for the lining is important if you want to turn the vest as easily as possible. I sorely regretted not doing it their way from the beginning!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
It's a really cute vest and was perfect for the hobbit costumes I made my sons. My boys were disappointed the welt pockets weren't real (they are just flaps), but I honestly didn't want to go to the work of making real welt pockets for a quickly whipped up costume.
After I made vest #1 I realized the vest is quite slim fitting. I had hoped to have more growing room. I sized vest #2 up a bit.
Hobbit version 1 3 Hobbit costumes
Fabric Used:
Upholstery fabric for the shells and navy satin for the linings.
The upholstery fabrics frayed like crazy and made the vests more difficult than they would have been otherwise. Plus the upholstery made for very bulky seams, which seemed so uneven compared to the thin lining fabric. On vest #2, I serged around all the pieces before assembling which helped considerably.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
This pattern was perfect for the costumes I needed. My boys have outgrown the patterns, now, and would scarcely wear vests in their normal lives.
Conclusion:
Excellent vest pattern. |
