| Pattern Description: Loose-fitting, unlined jackets or coats have front extending into collar, front princess seams, and two-piece sleeves. A: Side front button and elastic loop closing. B: Sleeve patches. C: Single-layered (sherpa side shows on collar and lower sections), raw edge finish. B,D: Purchased trim. C,D: Lower front and back.
Designed for medium to heavy weight woven fabrics.
Pattern Sizing: Combinations: Y(XSmall-Small-Medium), ZZ(Large-XLarge-XXLarge) I made the XSmall, version A
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, for the most part. I noticed as I was writing this review that the pattern has the collar folded differently and I like their version better. I'm going to play with that and the button placement and see if I can change mine up. Dealing with the elastic loop in the seam with the fur might be a little bit of a pain, but we'll see what happens. If I change it I'll delete this section and post a new photo!
**Update** - I lowered the top button and elastic considerably. The pattern markings are really high, and I'd suggest using intuition instead on this one. I like this lowered version much better. I am leaving the pictures of the original placement though - so people can see what it looks like. The lower one isn't quite like the pattern envelope but closer and I like it better
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, very easy
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the ability to combine fur and fabric in a very wearable piece.
Fabric Used: Home Dec fabric for the body (unknown fiber) that my son bought me for Christmas specifically to go with the fur. (Boys raised with sewing moms are awesome, haha.) I had the faux fur in my stash for a long time waiting for the right thing. The fur is shades of brown and cream with turquoise roots. The two buttons my husband picked up in Japan for me years ago.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn't change anything except I did top stitch all my seams on both sides of the seam line. It's hard to see the top stitching but it does hold the inside seams down nicely and gives the jacket a more polished look imo. I also had to paint my elastic for the button loops. I used a tan acrylic paint on white elastic.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I plan to sew version C soon and like all the versions of this pattern. It's a winner and will be used again. I highly recommend it - it's easy and fun.
Conclusion: If you live in a cold climate this is a great jacket for wool and home dec fabrics. It's fast and easy to put together, too.
