pittysmom said... Wow, my hat is off to you, Lorna! You must pat yourself on the back, it looks like a daunting project, but you saw it thru and made it look pretty easy. $120 is alot of money for just one properly fitting bra, so even factoring in your time in sewing, you still come out way ahead. I expect the next ones you sew will get easier. Now you aren't FORCED to spend so much on just one bra, you have a choice.
Another bonus, now you can make whatever colors you want, not limited to what the store has...
One question- Will you be able to find similar fabrics in Canada once you have used what LeeAnne sent? I just saw a tip on the boards about cannibalizing bras, so maybe you could salvage some of the findings from old ones that are worn out. Just a thought to save even MORE $$...

Lorna C. Newman said... Thanks for all the wonderful "supportive" (Sorry, I just had to do that! LOL!) comments on this project. IT really was easier than I thought it would be. I have enough fabrics to make 2 more and probably will soon. I also have another RTW bra (from the same store) that is about 3 years old and very worn out that I am seriously considering ripping apart to make a pattern. Lee Anne's book is easy to understand and after seeing how it is done, I just might do it myself. Just not right now ... too many other things to fit now that the twins are sitting where they are supposed to!
Pittysmom, I am going to scour the bra discussion board to find all the sources mentionned there. I don't restrict myself to Canada for fabrics. I do by a lot from the US if I can't find what I l ike here. I hope to be able to keep this up (my the puns just don't stop on this topic, do they?). 5/30/05 8:55 AM

Lilibet, seeing as the bra money comes from the clothing budget and the fabric from the sewing budget, maybe an annual increase to my sewing budget is in order??! 5/31/05 8:32 AM
