This was my daughter's first pick for fall school clothes! I've got the jacket almost done (and it was definitely a more advanced pattern) and the capri's are next. Have you seen the Sandra Betzina video on the Thread's website for fly front zips? Most people use her method instead of following pattern directions. It's the best! It's also in a couple of her books too. Would love to see a pic of your daughter's capri's!!

They look cute despite all your troubles. I certainly wouldn't know from the final pants. Just as well your DD likes them. :)
