Love the safty pins to hold the plastic mesh in place - great for all sorts of bag bases!

Great review. Question: Did your "passion suede" fabric ravel? (Yesterday, the faux ultra suede on the bolt at JoAnn's was raveling, so I didn't get it as a substitute for ultra suede.) I want this pattern just so I can learn Linda's strap technique. But I made her Obie bag and thought the instructions were just awful. This bag might be what I'm looking for -- to use as a large carryon bag with lots of pockets. Thanks for the helpful review.

The passion suede does ravel on the edges where I tore it, to get straight lines. But no more than something like a cotton twill might, if you tore it instead of cutting, and it wasn't a problem to sew. I like the look and feel of it on the finished handles, too.
