In some RTW garments that I have, they didn't trim the bottom part of the zipper at all. They just left it hanging free-style you might say, past where the zipper was supposed to end, without sewing across to makea zipper stop at all, thus the zipper-pull sometines goes down past where it should normally stop and you have to go fishing for the zipper pull to bring it upwords to where it is supposed to stop at. Only a sewist would notice things like that..... It seems more practical extend the excess past the top and to cut it off in the waist band section on a skirt or slacks to avoid those problems.
