Trending zig zag with a dress from cache.com
Trending zig zags and bias stripes with former fashion model Cheryl Tiegs in 1967
I admit the zig-zag print screams Peanuts' character "Charlie Brown". I am also aware that not everyone is a fan of such outlandish and funky print, but didn't Charlie trend the zig zag before Missoni did?
Pattern Description:
Cowl neck top with skirt. I confess that model-turned-actress Shelley Hack sold me on purchasing this pattern online. She is a model that displays a flair for fashion. No wonder Revlon's Charlie perfume was a top selling perfume since the early 1970's and I would not be surprised that the print and TV ads contributed to the sales.
Pattern Sizing:
Size "12".
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Somewhat, due to the fabric I used.
Fabric Used:
First version: ITY jersey from fabric.com.
Second version: Rayon (?) jersey also from fabric.com.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very easy, which seemed typical of the patterns I encountered from this era. The verbal and pictorial instructions were direct and clear. There was minimal need for second guessing on what to do and the sequence of steps.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked that that it is overall very easy to construct. With three pattern pieces (front, back, collar), it makes it ideal for beginners, especially for those working with knits for the first time.
I also like of course, the cowl neckline and the cap sleeves.
The only thing, I did not like how much fabric at the collar that I needed to turn to the inside , or more like "rolling" (due to the height of the collar) until I achieved a nice cowl and drape. .
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: First version (green and white)
My typical petite adjustment at the waist. I skipped my upper back adjustment because it did not seem necessary.
I deducted about 1" from the cowl's top edge, before topstitching and attaching to the neckline, right sides together.
Second version (zig zag)
Performed the same as described for the green and white top.
Lowered the neckline 3/4" from the center, tapering to 0" at the shoulders.
Lengtbened the top by adding 6" to the lower edge.
Top-stitched a 3/4" hem after turning in the raw edge 3/8".
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I definitely would sew it again. If you are able to find this rare gem of a pattern, I do recommend it. Cowl neck tops are classic and timeless.

We need a REMAKE of this pattern in MY size -- ha! Your tops are SO pretty. As for the PEANUTS zigzag pattern, I didn't even THINK of that -- and still don't. :o) I really do like BOTH tops. :o)

Very pretty tops. I love the cowl neck on them. I laughed at your Charlie Brown comment. I thing the zig zag is great.

The sleeves look so pretty on your arms, and this top has great shape to show off the zigzag fabric...I'm always at a loss for what to do with zigzag prints--this is a great choice.
