Signed in just to tell you how much I like this dress! Very clever with the thrifted bed sheet lining. Your work is so tidy and the pattern looks great on you.

More lovely comments, thank you all :) @crazygrad - the picture was taken in Zurich; I live in Geneva, Switzerland and wore the dress to attend a friend's wedding. @zoe: Thanks for checking back! Once I read on other blogs about using old bedsheets for lining, I've never even bothered to purchase proper lining fabrics! Good thing I discovered this early on, because I would much rather have fully-lined dresses and not have to worry about whether I should wear a slip.

Beautiful dress! The fabric is very well suited to this style.

Checked back to see the pics of the dress interior; always good to see in a review. Looks like you've done a wonderful job! I also use thrifted cotton bedsheets for linings; I started doing so, once I realized they were the same fabric as most of the cotton I was buying to line things. YARDS of it for an amazing price too! I just love recycling ( it makes me feel so virtuous ). :)

Gorgeous! Where was the pic taken? The whole image-- dress, you, scene-- is worthy of a magazine!

This is stunning on you! Also the choice of fabric is great. I really appreciate how the design of the fabric is placed with this dress.

My favourite Cambie thus far. I think Sewaholic has a tutorial on zippers in her sewtionary at the top of her page.

Thank you so much for all your positive comments! This is my first review here and it is so nice to have such a warm welcome. I shall update my review this evening with pictures of the back of the dress showing the lapped zipper, and the lining as well.

Well written review! Your dress looks beautiful. The sleeve 'design feature' with the contrasting fabrics actually works really well and looks great.
HelenMcG said... (7/16/12 9:28 AM) Reply
Stunning dress. You should be so proud. I have had stuggles with the zipper issue myself and your self-confidence to go "off script" with the zipper is awesome.

The fabric is perfect for this dress. KensingtonCrab mentioned the background scenery and I had to go back up to look.....your dress was so eyecatching that I did not notice the background.

Excellent review, and fantastic dress. Don't worry about going "off-script". In sewing, you do whatever works - and your dress is evidence that you're doing something right.
