Pattern Description:
Semi-fitted, pullover tops A, B in two lengths have raglan sleeves shirred with elastic and two cowl variations, optional contrast cordless piping. Close fitting, 1" seam pull-on pants C with side slits and elastic waist. All have stitched hems. I made the View B tunic. Pattern Sizing:
Sandra Betzina's A-J sizing. I cut a size C. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes! Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. Sandra Betzina writes really great instructions and these were no exception. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
This is my favorite tunic pattern. I love everything about the cowl; it is full, heavy and drapey and it hangs just perfectly. The cowl is completely seperate and prior to it being attached, the neckline is huge. Sandra advises you not to try the tunic on until the cowl is attached and that is a good warning. I think the neckline could easily stretch way out of shape. I like the raglan sleeves and the ruching. This pattern is very well drafted and goes together like clockwork. One dislike, or actually it is a mis-print on the pattern: The instructions say there should be 3 circles on the lower sleeve for placement of the elastic. The middle circle referred to is missing. This pic shows the existing circles in blue and the missing one in red that you will want to add. No biggie but just one of those things that make you feel crazy because you can't find it. Fabric Used:
A wonderful Ponte knit from Gorgeous Fabrics. The perfect weight for this pattern. You'll want something a little on the heavy side to allow the cowl to best do its thing. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None... I sewed a straight size C. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes and yes. Love, love, love this pattern and highly recommend it. Conclusion:
This is my second tunic from this pattern and I've made the pants countless times. I think this is one of those patterns that might easily be passed by because, IMO, the tunic on the pattern envelope isn't anything to write home about. To fully appreciate it have a look at the line drawing. On the back view you can see how extended the neckline is where the large cowl is attached. Someday when I have time (ha) I'd like to draft a raglan sleeve for this without the ruching. In a perfect world... |

Too many cowl necks refuse to cooperate, but this one is well thought out. Nice top!

How cute! I have this pattern but just haven't used it yet because the envelope looks so blah! Your version is anything but blah! Love it!

I love this look on you. Great with tights and your usual jazzy accessories.

Very cute and your right, I've passed this up because the picture isn't flattering. You've definitely done it justice!

Well I don't know why Vogue isn't paying you to be their model for this marvelous tunic/dress. You look a thousand times better than that dowdy thing on the pattern envelope. Love that houndstooth in YOUR colors!

My gosh, that is so cute! Why haven't I sewn this up yet?

Beautiful top, and would make a great dress also!

What a great tunic!! I agree that yours looks WAY better than the pattern photo! I think your choice of fabric for this pattern is better, especially for this cowl. Your fabric looks heftier, and the pattern photo fabric looks thin, like ITY poly or something similar. Beeeautiful top!

You look fantastic - I love the ruched sleeves
