Bathing suit with an empire line, triangular cups and a cross-over back. Pattern Sizing:
I drafted this pattern to my own measurements. Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
It looked like my inspiration photo from the 'Jets' swimwear range. Were the instructions easy to follow?
I used three different sources to make this pattern - my Jalie 3023 tankini pattern, the halter top from the Pattern School website and elements from a vintage J&L pattern. I used bits and pieces of instructions from each of the first two sources. Both were great. What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I think the design of these bathers is flattering as the colours and style draw the eyes upwards to the neckline area and (hopefully) away from the tummy and legs! Fabric Used:
Thick lycra. Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I changed my design slightly from the inspiration bathers by eliminating the white bands around the legs. I also changed the back to make it lower and created a cross-over strap style incorporating a ring. Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I think I will probably sew another pair of these next summer. Conclusion:
It was a long process to choose a design, work out how I was going to put it together, draft the pattern and make up the bathers, but it was rewarding and I'm really pleased with the result. I think I have learned a lot from doing this and it should be a lot quicker next time.
