Here's a cute little easy top that can work with many different fabrics. I have made this one up before in a crushed silk and decided to try it with a 1.25 yard remnant of boiled wool. I had a thrift store Talbots dress in merino wool that I had bought for the beautiful wool ribbing thinking it might come in useful. I used this dress fabric for the added on cuffs and turtleneck. The construction of the sleeve/armseye is what drew me to this pattern in the first place. You don't see a lot of this cap sleeve with a sleeve attached. This is a 42 with just a sliver shaved off the shoulder curve to fit my slightly sloping shoulders. This is really the main fit feature. The torso is a straight cut...not great for everyone, unless you use a knit. Although knit is not amongst the recommended fabrics, the design is simple enough to have broad applications.
Had I known how easy boiled wool is to work with I am sure this would not be my first go at it. I used a large baste stitch to initially secure the seams and then once I was satisfied I stitched up with a stretch stitch. I did not use the stretch stitch from the beginning as it is difficult to undo, had something needed changing. I made up the proportions as I went with the ribbing, utilizing finished edges whenever possible.
I am pleased that this resembles what I had hoped to create...I have a fair portion of "meh's" and failures, so its nice to feel a sense of accomplishment from time to time! |
