Three different necklines for a knit top with princess seams.
I made view B.
8-22. I made a size 12.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, not many pieces, very simple construction
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
There are several positive reviews for this pattern. Although I like the final version of my top - it took some time to get there. I liked the neckline for view B - but I don't think the pattern for the neckline aligns to the drawing on the pattern envelope.
Ponte Roma from Fabricmart
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
First I made up the entire shirt - because I can usually fit a Vogue size 12 without any problems. I had the arms in and top stitched the princess seams to add some interesting detail - put on the top and not only was the neckline waaaaay toooo long, but the shoulders were so wide they were off my shoulders. The cut of the upper chest of the pattern is very wide which resulted in a top that looked to big from my chest up, but fit fine below the bust. So, I took the entire top apart and started over. I took about 1 1/4 inches off the width of the center front and center back pieces. I made this change to the side that attaches to the side front & side back pattern piece. The width only need to be adjusted from the shoulder to above the bust point - so I used a french curve to blend the adjustment from the top of the front/back center piece to about 3-4 inches down. Once I made this adjustment the shoulders fell back into place and the fit came back in line.
I used a ponte roma knit because the neckline on view B looks like it needs a knit with some body to stand up. Others have made this top with lighter weight knits and I guess the length of the neck was manageable. But with the ponte roma - there was way too much fabric for the neck to work, I ended up cutting off 6-7 inches to the length of the neck.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Now that I figured out the fit issue on view B, I might try the other styles in the future.
Easy top, love the multiple options. More info on my Blog:Sew Carrie
