Pattern Description:
Self drafted pattern for girls knit leggings and a-line ruffle dress. I drafted this for my senior collection and sized it up to make these outfits. I made two dresses and two leggings, both about a size 6.
Pattern Sizing:
I drafted this to fit two girls, a 5.5 yo and an 8yo, who both wear a 6 in RTW clothes.
Fabric Used:
The print for the dress is a cotton lycra, the leggings are a cotton interlock. Both are from Joanns Juvenile Apparel section. The legging fabric has silver sparkles. Sparkle fabric
Construction:
I started with a basic t-shirt sloper, lengthened it to be a dress length and flared it out to give it an a-line shape. I then cut 1" strips of the cotton lycra, gathered it using my ruffler foot and attached it using a straight stitch to the bodice front and back prior to construction. The ruffles match nicely at the side seams so it gives the illusion of wrapping around the dress. I then went ahead and constructed the dresses as though they were t-shirts - shoulders, attached the sleeves flat, side seams, neckband, then hemmed sleeves and hem with a twin needle. I left the bottom ruffle unattached front and back till after I hemmed the dress, then I went back and wrapped it over the hem and secured it. Hem and ruffle
I cut the neckband on the lengthwide grain to use all the stripes - the fabric had enough stretch for this.

The leggings are just your basic legging - I drafted these a while ago. The fabric makes it special. No full length picture but here is the waistband, with twin needle stitching.

Conclusion:
This is my Christmas present to my three littlest cousins - dresses, leggings, and embroidered jackets. Two of them are sisters and they will all love matching. I can't wait to see their faces! This is also part of my entry for the Sewing for Children contest.
