Pattern Description: Vintage Pattern Advance 5578 size 8 Blogged
Pattern Sizing: As the pattern is vintage, it is one size only.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? It looked fairly close to view 2.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were more visual - in the form of diagrams - with some explanations. I found this easy to follow as I prefer diagrams.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? There was nothing I strongly disliked, though the unprinted pattern pieces took a bit of figuring out!
Fabric Used: I used silk velvet from an adult sized dress. It's not the easiest fabric to work with and probably caused the most difficulties in this project.
Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I lengthened the sleeves as my daughter does not like sleeves ending above her wrist. Instead of the facings in the pattern, I lined the bodice (and the skirt, and added tulle for shape). As I had limited fabric for the skirt, I had to cut it differently, using the lower part of the dress. To avoid inserting a side zipper, I left a full opening in the skirt, which means the dress is more a wrap dress/coat dress. Blogged
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I love the style of this pattern, and would sew it again using cotton poplin, but not 'drapey' fabrics.
Conclusion: A perfect occasion dress with collar and cuffs. It was time-consuming to sew, but worth it as my daughter loves it. |
