Pattern Description: Girls' princess-style costume with choice of headcovering
Pattern Sizing: 3-8. I made a size 8.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Sort of; I used the wrong fabric, but it's recognizable.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the pattern, although as seems to be standard with me, the facings were a bit wacky. The hat setup is awkward (at least mine didn't stand up in a point like it should) but I assume that was down to my poor choice of materials.
On a separate note, I used panne velvet (the cheap stretchy stuff you can buy around Hallowe'en) and this pattern is definitely not designed for it. I'm almost embarrassed to post this review alongside all of the other great incarnations already available at PR.
Fabric Used: Panne velvet. The stuff of heartbreak and ruined dreams. Oh, and foil-printed organza. And a shoelace to lace up the back, because that's how I roll.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I'm sure I made a few, but they were skin-of-my-teeth decisions. I didn't hem the bottom; I sewed the facing down in the front a bit more than necessary, but again - the fabric wasn't helping this any.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? No, I wouldn't sew it again, at least not anytime soon. I'd love a dress like it for myself, but it uses up so much fabric, and I really don't have anywhere to wear it (unfortunately). I would, however, recommend it to others.
Conclusion: This made an acceptable princess costume that would have been so much better had I used the right fabric. |

Ha. Ha. I loved your description of the panne velvet. I laughed so hard throughout your blog post. And the costume does look really cute.
