| Pattern Description:
five aprons in size small (8-10), medium (12-14) and large (16-18). Apron A, B: front pockets and ties. Apron C: front bib, pockets and straps. Apron D: front pocket. Apron E: front bib and contrast pocket.
I made 1 of view C (pictured), and 1 of view E. More details and pictures can be found on my blog.
Pattern Sizing:
Small, Medium, Large
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked the retro style of these aprons and the full skirt.
I didn't like that these aprons are more fitted than other aprons due to the buttons. The buttons are pretty cute and unusual for an apron, but since I made these as a gift, I just defaulted to "Large", and I think it would have worked better with straps that tie instead of button.
The scalloped sides and waist in view E were fairly difficult for me to sew, but that's my own lack of skill for something like that- not the pattern's fault.
Fabric Used:
For view C I used a Kokka cotton that was heavier than a regular quilting cotton. For view E I used 2 regular quilting cottons.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I shortened the skirt by about 5" on both views I made. They were still more than long enough.
For view E, I purchased a crocheted flower for pocket embellishment rather than do the provided applique.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Maybe I'd sew it for myself, but probably not. View E works better as a "giftable" apron that view C since the fit is a little more forgiving. I'm sure the versions without bibs would also be fine since those are all tie straps.
Conclusion:
This is a fine apron pattern, but there are a lot of apron patterns available, and many of them turn our prettier aprons than what this pattern offers. I am fairly pleased with how my view E apron turned out, but my view C was kind of disappointing. Part of the blame for that lies with me since one of the fabrics I chose was really too heavy to work the design and work with the other fabric I used, but even if the fabric had been better the design for that apron is just underwhelming.
I picked view E for that particular fabric because I didn't want something too "frilly" to detract from the busy but adorable print, but I still wanted more feminine styling than a simple BBQ apron. I think that view really needs a more "feminine" print like that pictured on the pattern envelope that's toned down by the tailored style of the apron. I attempted to slightly "dress up" a very casual print, and neither the print nor the apron design really shined.
