Pattern Description: 6 Fleece Hat versions in 3 sizes
Pattern Sizing: S, M, L
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Kind of.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very simple construction; not much much to mess up on - although they managed to anyway ;D Note: I'm only referring to the view I made, which was View E.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the end result, but getting there involved a taking a winding path (I do like winding paths though, I must admit!) Some other reviewers have said this pattern was too large, others said it was too small. Personally, I think it's just very poorly drafted. In View E, the body of the hat was at least an inch wider than the binding, or band. I made two versions, using 2 different fabrics, and this was true for both. When I measured out the pattern pieces, it because quite obvious that their calculations for the "turn of the cloth" was way off. My head measured 22", exactly the measurement for their Medium, but the hat just flopped over my eyes without the band, but I had to cut the band 1" longer in order to have it fit.
Fabric Used: For one I used a tech fleece from Malden Mills fleece on one size, waterproof fabric on the other. (Windpro Weathershield). The other one (which started as mock-up to test the size, but ended up as my favorite!) is made from faux Persian lamb.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I followed the directions sewing up the seams on the fleece hat - NOTE: The WRONG SIDE of the fabric will show! You sew the 6 triangular shapes together with right sides together, so that the wrong side of the seam is exposed. The pattern calls for a binding in this version instead of a band around the bottom; I opted for a band, because I wanted more of the grey fleece to show. I eased the excess fabric from the hat body into the band as I sewed it, in order to get the two to match up. Orange & Grey Fleece Hat
For the Persian lamb hat, I sewed the triangles together with RIGHT sides together, so the seams would not be exposed. On this one, in order to match the hat to the band, I took a little tuck near each seam as I was attaching the band. Black Hat
You will notice a zipper flower on the black hat - Zipper Tape Flower. I liked the finished version of this hat, but it needed a little sumpin' sumpin', so I made the zip flower & wrote a Flower Tutorial Post fell free to check it out!
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I want more hats! But I think I'm done with tis pattern. I can only recommend it with the caveat that you need to play with the sizing and the drafting, so make it up if you like one of the styles, but Buyer Beware!
