Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Pretty much. It was huge on me.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Very easy.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I think the dress ran very large. I like my knits to have negative ease, and this pattern definitely did not. I thought the tie was very bulky too. I did not like how the tie was drafted and constructed either. The pattern did not allow for it to be wrapped behind you first.
Fabric Used:
Rayon/lycra knit. (muslin fabric because it was so cheap!)
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Even though I made the size 8, I had to take the side seams in a lot. I'm still not happy with the fit. Too much ease. I made a self binding instead of just hemming the neckline. It is much prettier this way and it doesn't stretch out of shape.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Nope. I'm glad I got this one off my to-do list because I can move on and try to find another pattern for my gorgeous EmmaOneSock bird knit.
Conclusion:
My mother who is a rtw size 10 fit into the McCalls size 8. The dress now belongs to her. |

I find that BMV patterns vary a lot in their included ease. You've done a lovely job, but it's so frustrating to spend time on something that doesn't work for you! Thanks for spending the time to review it for the rest of us though :-)

From my perspective the dress fits you well and has really nice proportions. Still, it's great that your mother has scored a dress!

Personally I think it's great looking on you and very well sewn. Yay for your mom!

I also think the dress looks good on you. But if you're unhappy with how it fits and feels, then it's best to pass it along to someone who is happy to receive it. Lucky mom. I will say just looking at the cover model I thought there looked to be a lot of volume in that dress....and the ties look very long too.

Did you notice that, for fitting purposes, the pattern has one inch side seam allowances? It is actually a very fitted garment. I'm voting for you to try it again, or just take in the side seams of your completed dress. It really is a winning pattern.
