Pattern Description:
MISSES'/MISSES' PETITE SHIRT: Fitted. A, B, C, & D Cups
Pattern Sizing:
(6-8-10-12), (12-14-16-18-20)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Close enough, considering I am a wildly different shape to the envelope model!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes. I wasn't tripped up by anything.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like THAT IT FITS. Sure, I will tweak it for next time. But I wear a 32G, and I've never had a button-down shirt that FITS before!
More specifically, I like that it is a basic shape with a few 'special features'. The bust ruching is something I like (though others don't feel it suits them). I like that the neckline is a slight V, with a shaped placket.
The only minor dislike is that the sleeve vent has a binding. Next time I will find a pattern for a proper placket and make it that way.
Fabric Used:
Poly-cotton poplin. It cost about $3/m (very cheap for NZ). I wasn't sure if this pattern would work for me, so I wanted something cheap and non-stretch, to really test the pattern.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
None this time. Next time, I'll add a little bit to the seams at the lower back for some more butt-room. I might also increase the sleeve girth a bit. And I will probably use a stretch woven for a bit of extra movement (though it's fine in a plain woven).
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I will definitely sew this again. It only needs some tiny changes to be an absolutely perfect shape. Win!!
Conclusion:
If you normally have to make large FBAs, this Vogue pattern might save you some time. It's a nice basic shape, and the instructions are good. Go for it! |

Great blouse - you have done a wonderful job with the stitching.

Thank you! I'm trying really hard to be more 'professional' in my finishing.

This is absolutely fabulous! The color is perfect for you and the shirt fits so nicely. Great job and fun blog post, too.

This looks to be a great shirt pattern. I love the bust ruching too - it's very attractive and sets it apart from a "regular" shirt. You are right - princess seams are more flattering and your decision to use a stretch cotton next time is probably a good one. I just love the stretch cotton sateens....when you can find them. Good review. Will look forward to your next version!

wonderful review all that pressing paid off in a very professional looking shirt. I too love that they are doing more patterns with cup sizes, I am a former DDD with a reduction down to a D.

I normally like stretch shirts, but I'm glad to have tried this in non-stretch to understand the fit. Cotton sateen is one of my favourites! ggf2005, it's such a time saver having these pre-adjusted patterns. I really like this one!
