Pattern Description:
Lisette Traveler Dresses
Pattern Sizing:
Sizes 6-14. I cut a 10.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Sort of. They did include a lot of tips. However, they didn't explain inserting the placket enough. They needed to add another illustration for that step... and maybe a "Plackets for Dummies" insert. I ended up just doing whatever on it, but I still don't know if it's right.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
LIKE:
The dress looks super cute. I like the look of the sleeves and pockets. And while there is enough ease to hide a second trimester pregnancy, a belt will tighten that right up.
DISLIKE:
The lack of detailed instructions on doing the placket.
Also, this is not a dislike of the pattern, but many reviewers said this was a super easy pattern. LIES! It's no Versace gown, but it takes more than a basic knowledge of sewing.
Fabric Used:
A brown cotton, something-or-other. I found several yards of it at Goodwill and knew it would come in handy one day.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I added an inch to the back... apparently I have broad shoulders. Thank you, body form, for letting me know this (and thanks, Mom, for the awesome Christmas gift). However, after gaining said knowledge, I never thought to increase all things that come in contact with the back... like say, the collar. If you've read my reviews before you know where this is going. Basically after spending over 2 hours on perfecting a size 10 collar, I realized it wouldn't fit on the body of the dress. Super fun times ACTIVATE!
I also cut off about 5 inches at the bottom cause I'm a shorty.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Maybe I'll sew it again. As for recommending it: Yes, but only to someone intermediate or higher. For a beginner, it was pretty time consuming. With all the detail work and buttons, I don't know how some of y'all knocked this out in a day.
Conclusion:
So this project was harder than I thought... But my New Year's Resolution was to become a better sewer. So I said, "What the hell?! Go for it!" And I did. But rookies beware. Get a couple things under your belt before you dive into this project.
As for the end result: Will I travel to other countries in this dress? No. To other states? Probably not. To the gas station? Absolutely! While it might not be the most practical traveler dress (what are those pockets supposed to hold anyway?!), it is cute. So I'll wear it and pretend to be on an excursion... to the grocery store.

Your dress looks really cute in the thumbnail, Icouldn't enlarge it, don't know if it's my computer. Loved your review, so funny! Sorry this dress was more complicated than you expected, but you got a really nice finished dress. Did you have to cute another collar?

Nice dress. I like the contrast top stitching. Liesl likes short skirts, but maybe she doesn't design with my age demographic in mind. (I've made three Lisette patterns so I know!)

Nice job on this! The details are really cute, and congratulations on doing the collar and placket. They definitely are not easy beginner elements.

loved your review and thanks for the tips. Agree topstitching looks good - think the dress is worth an upgrade from the gas station!!. Traveller dress is in my bucket list to do in 2013, will consider myself forewarned about all things plackety.

Thanks for all the positive comments, ladies! Yes, I did have to cut a new collar... but it was worth it.
