Pattern Description:
Straight skirt, mid-knee length, has side zipper and faced waistline; skirt A has shaped lower back flounce; skirt B has pleated lower back; skirt C has gathered lower back with self-fabric ruffle; skirt D has two lower back flounces. I made View C this time.
Pattern Sizing:
(12 - 18) I wavered between the 10 for my waist and an 11 1/2 over the hips!
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
From the front, yes. But my gathered section at the back doesn't seem to be as full as the diagram. Whether this is due to my fabric choice, or their pencil choice I am not sure.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Extremely! It is rated as an easy pattern and McCall's have got it right on this one. Even the gathered section and self fabric ruffle is super easy, as it really is only an addition to the back panel.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Liked the Princess seam lines down both the front and back, which made tweaking at fitting a breeze. Love the shape of the skirt on completion.
Fabric Used:
A patterned cotton seersucker.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Yes, as usual I can't just seem to sew from the packet 'as-is'. First change is using an invisible zipper - once you nail these you will never look back. Second change was to line the skirt in a light white cotton, easy enough to do using the pattern pieces. Though,I used the pattern piece from View A to line the gathered section to give a smoother line to the back of the skirt. I thought gathers under gathers could result in a sticky-out weird piece behind me!
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Will definitely be sewing it again. I think this ruffly view would be ideal to substitute a feature lace section into, or highlight with a different fabric altogether.
Conclusion:
I think there is a lot that you could do creatively with this pattern, adding on a lace edging, colour blocking etc. And all for just over 1 metre of fabric - no reason not to love it. More pictures at my blog... |

Just lovely - a great fabric and I like all the ways you styled it, with the aqua shirt is my favorite though!
