Pattern Sizing:I cut an 8 on top and 10 on bottom. I found the sizing to be quite strange, as it turned out I needed a smaller size on the bottom than the top.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Sort of. My fabric has less drape, so there are differences.

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions seemed ok to me, though I only followed them through assembling the bodice. I thought the directions for the tricky bits (pleats and the center panel) were clear enough, but maybe not enough for a beginner.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I thought the style looked cute and graceful. I wanted to try a retro 40s pattern.

Fabric Used:Cotton/poly jacquard. It's a medium weight with drape and structure. I think I would recommend a lighter fabric for this pattern.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:I lowered the neckline by 1.5 inches (see the final neck depth before finishing here.) The neck is incredibly high as drafted. I ended up having to take in the skirt quite a bit, as it was baggier than the photo appeared. The bodice was large in the waist and not super flattering - the gathers added bulk. My biggest issue was with the sleeves - there are elbow darts, but on me they were in the wrong place. The sleeves came out really short and really tight in the elbow.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I don't think I would. Part of my issues come from choosing a poor pattern for my preferences (I prefer a full skirt/defined waist combo). Unfortunately, that wasn't aided by the inconsistent sizing. I'm nearly always 1 size larger in the skirt than in the top, but that wasn't true here. The sleeves were teeny, and I have small (though long) arms. The central panel causes a lot of bulk at the waist when combined with all those pleats.

Conclusion: I accidentally cut a hole in the skirt with my serger, so the dress isn't wearable. Even so, I think it wasn't going to work out, so I'm not too upset! If you decide to make this pattern, be sure to check for sizing issues.

How disappointing! Just when you think you know your sizing you get an odd one that doesn't work.

Thank you so much for this very helpful review! I had thought of picking up this pattern, but I think you've changed my mind. I don't like super high necklines and I have long arms so this would probably not work for me. :]

Sorry for your luck! I think we've all had a few projects like this. My Simplicity 1803 was just sent to Goodwill unworn. Sometimes we just don't love the results. Here's to more fulfilling projects in the new year!
