Pattern Description:
MISSES'/MISSES' dress and belt: Close-fitting, lined dress with front inset, front seam details, back pleats, invisible zipper closing and above mid-knee length.

Pattern Sizing:
14-20. I made 16

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Easy with the exception of the lining. See below.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
LOVE LOVE LOVE that this is a sexy girly dress without being nauseatingly girly! It can go to work or a club in the evening depending on how you accessorize!

I dislike that the lining pattern is SO piece-y. I made it from the lining pattern pieces and hated it! I shot it out and made another lining from the dress pieces and that was so much easier to put into the dress!

I don't think that the facings are necessary for this dress and didn't bother with them. I made a lining piece from the inset panel and used it on the inside.

The front inset panel is a bit fidgety and gapped quite a bit on me when I tried on the dress in its basted form. Don't sew this piece down without trying on the dress in either a pinned or basted form!

Other reviewers have mentioned that one's bra straps show out. Mine did and I was hoping they would not as I have 42 inch shoulders! I put in loops for this, inside the shoulders (click here) so I unhook my bra straps and put them through and re-hook. Problem solved.

The lining tends to show in the shoulders on the front, so I went in and tacked it down inside.

Warning: if you make the belt this is an afternoon project, but worth it! It takes a while to invert the belt. I also discovered that I am God awful at covering belt buckles; all thumbs! So I caved and bought a readymade silver one.

Fabric Used:
Outer shell: printed tweed, Inside: standard medium weight black lining fabric.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

As I mentioned above, I hated the lining so I made one from the dress pieces.

I used iron on interfacing in the upper shoulders of the dress to stiffen them up a bit.

I tacked the lining of the pleats in the back to the dress from the inside. It was a bit tricky but it worked. It helps to cut off most of the seam allowance on the pleats.

Brassiere loops were installed to keep my bra straps from peek-a-booing out the front.

Because I used a ready-made belt buckle I made a belt loop holder on the front so the excess belt would not hang down. Most covered buckles have three bars, one of which performs this function.

I just love this printed tweed! Click here for a close up!

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I would recommend it to others, but suggest using the dress pieces of the pattern for lining pieces and exercise caution with the front inset panel. Otherwise it is a gorgeous dress. I don't usually buy Badgley Mishka patterns because they border on nauseatingly ruffled and sugary sweet, but this one is the exception. He seems to design for 20-somethings, but this dress is wonderful for all ages.

Conclusion:
Beautiful dress!
