Pattern Description:
Knee-covering dress with double bell sleeves, plus front and back gathers. The wide shaped waist band forms a slender figure.

Pattern Sizing:
38-46. I cut a 40.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes! Of course, I also added a modesty panel

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Well, this was my first time working with a BurdaStyle Magazine pattern, so the whole experience was a bit different than what I'm used to.

I love how they provide SO many measurements for sizing, but am not a fan of the brightly colored maze that the pattern pieces are traced from. That being said, with a little reading I figured out my size and which line to trace for it, and I would probably choose this route over downloading the pattern from the website, and printing/taping together 50+ sheets (or however many it is) of paper.

The instructions themselves were rather sparse compared to the Big 4 and independent patterns I've used (there are no pictures, so you need to either already understand the stated techniques or look them up online or use a sewing reference book). I didn't have too much of a problem, but I did need to read and re-read some things to make sure. This dress also has a long sleeved and a blouse version, and I was not a fan of the way instructions said "see style #106B" for certain parts of construction. Having to skip around like that made me wonder if I was coming or going!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I really love all of the little touches in this pattern - the soft gathers, front neckline pleats, baby back pleats, and double layered sleeves.

There wasn't really anything about the pattern that I could tell was out of whack. I read online that some folks had trouble with the back poofing out (a problem I also had with my muslin), but I fixed that with a swayback adjustment and by shortening the bodice.

Fabric Used:
Silk charmeuse. So lovely.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Pattern alterations:
- 1 1/2" FBA
- Lengthened bodice 2 1/2"
- 1/2" swayback adjustment
- Shortened midriff section 1/2"
- Took waistline in 1 1/2"

Design Changes:
- Added V neck modesty panel
- Shortened dress 5"
- The instructions called to leave the sleeve and skirt hems unfinished, but it was just not a pretty sight in this ravel-prone fabric. I used a baby hem instead.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
No, I wouldn't sew it again, because I think with this dress, the cheese stands alone. One and done! I would recommend it for ladies with an average to smaller bust (I'd say no bigger than C) if you don't want to have to employ a modesty panel.

Conclusion:
I love this pattern's gathers, fluttery sleeves, and its overall beautiful, vintage inspired silhouette. I'm glad I finally gave a BurdaStyle Mag pattern a shot!

Great details on the dress, and perfect colour on you. You styled the modesty panel just right, with the V shape it looks like an original part of the design.

That modesty panel has really become a design feature. Very pretty dress. Well done.
