| Pattern Description: Girls' shirtdress with scalloped button placket and ruffled underskirt. Dress has rounded collar, scalloped armhole band, and self-tied sash at back waist.
See the dress back here.
Pattern Sizing: Single sized pattern. My pattern lost its envelope at some point in time, so I'm not sure of the original size range. Mine is a size two.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? It looks very much like the drawing on the instruction sheet.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions and corresponding illustrations were clear and easy to follow.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I really like the look of the scalloped front. It's a detail that manages to look both classic and modern.
I really like how the instructions have you finish the collar and sleeve seams with bias binding. This makes the dress look really clean and nice on the inside.
Fabric Used: A bird print quilting cotton by Michael Miller that I've had in my stash for a while. I'm not usually drawn to patterned fabrics like this, but I thought the colors were so pretty...plus there are birds! The burgundy fabric was an inexpensive cotton remnant also in my stash.
As I previously mentioned, my pattern is without its envelope (and my Google searches haven't led to any additional information), so I don't know what type of fabric was shown in the original illustration. I had the idea of using two contrasting fabrics, but I'm not sure if that was originally intended. I imagine this dress would look really cute in one color, with piping around the scalloped edge.
I'd really love to know how the dress was styled on the envelope, so, if by any chance, anyone reading this has access to this pattern's envelope (or maybe remembers this pattern from their past!), please pass on the information!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I didn't make the ruffled underskirt because this dress is intended for "everyday" wear. Design-wise, I cut the width of both the front and back skirt pieces by half. I also shortened the back bow just to make it more practical.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I might be tempted to try this dress again in a solid color with piping on the edges, as I mentioned before.
Conclusion: This is a really cute little dress that went together well. I'm still not sure I love the contrasting fabrics (it's so different from what I would normally choose), but it's growing on me.
