Pattern Description: "Smart young set, the fitted coat and dress. Coat cut snug to fit waist, whirls wide at the hem, long fitted sleeves. Dress, fresh as a daisy with short slit sleeves, round contrast turtle neck collar, diamond shaped pocket accents."
Pattern Sizing: Single-sized pattern, sizes 2-10. My pattern is a size 2.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? My chosen fabric drapes differently, but the shape is exactly as shown in the pattern's technical drawing. See here
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy. The instructions are really well written.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the simplicity of this dress. It looks "chic", though that isn't a word we use often when describing children's clothing.
I love the slit sleeves (see photo here), the smooth waistline, the funnel collar, and the back buttons (see here).
Also, this dress went together really quickly and was fun to make.
Fabric Used: Cotton jersey intended for sweatshirts. The fabric is really soft, not too stretchy, and drapes nicely.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I left off the pockets; I actually made them, but then decided that it didn't look right with my dotted fabric, so took them off. I also left off the self-fabric belt; at the same time, I felt like the dress really needed something at the waist, so I added a simple tie sash.
I wish I had thought to cut a facing for the skirt's hem; the skirt is a true circle skirt and it was hard gathering my thicker fabric at the bottom edge without the hem looking lumpy.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will definitely be making this dress again! It's so easy and would look great in a variety of fabrics. I would definitely recommend this pattern to anyone who comes across it.
Conclusion: I LOVE this little dress and want one for myself! |
Love this dress--very nice details. The dots are really fresh looking.
