Pattern Description:
Half-size pattern with princess seams, back has centered pleat at waist-line.
Pattern Sizing:
Vintage half-sizes. One size per envelope.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were easy, even as far as the zipper application which could have been messy with the pleat starting at the waistline, and needing to keep it out of the seam allowance.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I particularly like the fun details (pleat and bows) on the back.
Fabric Used:
Cotton-suiting with a houndstooth pattern woven in.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
Took 1 inch off the bottom of the hem, and hemmed 1/2 inch higher than pattern stated. For a half-sized pattern that's supposed to be for 5'2"-5'3" women, it seemed awful long. Even with taking off a little length, it isn't a short on me as the pattern illustration would suggest. My fabric is rather heavy and spongy though, so it may be that the fabric stretched some after cuttting.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I don't have immediate plans to sew this again, but I would recommend it to anyone looking for a "work-appropriate" dress with fun details. If I were to sew it again, I'd make a couple of modifications. The first would be to use some sort of stay tape on the back neckline rather than just stay-stitching. With the deep V, that whole area is on the bias, and it did stretch and distort the fit somewhat. Also, the pattern is drafted to add sleeves, with instructions to sew the underarm bodice area closer if making the sleeveless version. I didn't see those instructions until I'd already finished that area, and it would fit better if I'd paid attention there. Lastly, while the zipper installation wasn't too difficult, it would have been easier to get the seam edges to line up closer together if I'd put the zipper in by hand. The instructions are for machine-stitching it, and it turned out ok, but there's room for improvement.
Conclusion:
Fun pattern with a vintage vibe that isn't too costume-y.
